Last week’s post was a bit on the heavy side (quick side note: thanks so much to the folks who have helped out the family from last week’s post!), so this week we wanted to feature something a little lighter.  This week’s “Humbled By, Thankful For & Can’t Live Without” is of one of the most special gifts I ever received: my wedding boots.

Lindsey and I have been married for 7 awesome years (seriously, some people say that to be sweet…but they have been AWESOME years!).  The night before our wedding, she gave me a pair of burgundy Lucchese Ostrich boots.  What a woman.

So here is a 60-second short of what I “Can’t Live Without”.

We are starting a new weekly feature on the site that we are so excited about…it’s called “Humbled By, Thankful For & Can’t Live Without”.  Every Monday we will post a creative expression of something that has recently done 1 of 3 things:

humbled us

made us thankful

we can’t live without it

Our first “Humbled By…” is posted below.  It’s the story of a family who has lost everything (almost).

We hope this becomes a great start to your week!

Hope.  Joy.  Peace.  We take the presence of these things for granted.  If we’re honest, we often just assume these things to be ever-present rights and not gifts.

But what if you lost everything?  Clothes…gone.  Furniture…gone.  Friends, job, money…all gone.  Even your health…gone.  Would your hope and joy vanish with these things?  Where would your source of peace be?

This is the story of a family I met.  They have nothing…well, almost nothing.  They still have hope in things eternal.  They have joy (even if just a hint here and there).  And their peace rests in the Lord.  Their faith in Him and their love for each other sustain them.  I am humbled to have met them and honored to call them friends.

While moving from D.C. to North Carolina, the moving truck that they borrowed was impounded (the owner of the truck had been writing bad checks).  Everything they owned was in that truck.  That was 6 months ago.  The husband has kidney disease and is hooked up to a dialysis machine 3 times a week.  This makes it difficult to get back on their feet.

If you would like to help, we are gathering house-hold items to bless this family.  Right now they have a bed, a coffee table and a few articles of clothing.  They need everything from linens to furniture to dishes to silverware to clothes.  Contact us if you would like to help.

Eastern North Carolina is full of romance. From the vast farm lands, cotton fields and old farm homes to the tree lined swamps dripping with moss, our trip east just seemed to mesmerize me. Tucked in the small town of Pollocksville, NC we found The Courtesy Press–a custom letterpress company run by the creative team of April and Josh. The heart of Courtesy Press is the 1917 letterpress that April and Josh operate out of their renovated Main Street location (a beautiful space that formerly was the town bank!). For anyone who loves the intimacy of hand printed stationary, you’ll find this film with every bit of romance that Eastern North Carolina has to offer. Enjoy!

For more info on The Courtesy Press and how they can load you up with some INCREDIBLE custom stationary, check them out on Facebook!

In November, 2011 I was fortunate enough to visit some of the FIRE International missionaries who are serving in the Southern Philippines. This 10 minute video barely scratches the surface of the incredible things that God is doing in that country. While I was there, we witnessed miracles and countless people healed from pain and disease. At the Awake Samal Crusade hundreds put their faith in Jesus Christ as their lord and savior. It was an amazing experience that I was so fortunate to be a part of.
