I had the pleasure of hanging out with Amy & Brandon during their engagement photography shoot at Graylyn Estate in Winston Salem, NC. Graylyn is a gorgeous castle with beautiful grounds. Amy & Brandon were great and it’s obvious that they are excited to start a life together!

I had the pleasure of flying to Cleveland this weekend to meet Ben and Kristin, founders of We Love Letterpress.  Ben & Kristin have such a passion for a beautiful (almost) lost art: letterpress printing.  What’s amazing to me is they aren’t printers, they simply LOVE the art of letterpress.  While they may not be printers, they are incredibly driven and adventurous.  They moved here from Germany about a year ago and succeeded in launching a company (We Love Letterpress) and successfully opening a gallery exhibit to showcase their heroes…the printers and designers who are revitalizing the art of letterpress.

So this week’s “Humbled By…” post is of Ben, Kristin and their successful We Love Letterpress gallery opening (officially called “YOUR Exhibition”).  I was humbled by their determination, I loved the ease with which they laughed and I was so thankful to have spent 24 hours with them!

O, and if you’re in Cleveland, be sure to stop by Zygote press to see the exhibit and to meet Liz and her crew…they are awesome and the turn of the century factory they revitalized is gorgeous!

I had every intention of filming something fun and lively and energetic this week (like this fun little film).  But the other night after dinner I noticed it was absolutely gorgeous outside and the sunset was going to be killer.  I headed up to Childress Vineyards to catch the light.

While I was filming the vines I noticed that they were just beginning to bear fruit.  I remembered last weeks post and thought about bearing “good fruit”.  I was reminded of Jesus’ words in John 15:

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

That’s a pretty strong claim…”apart from me you can do “NOTHING“.  Jesus used a powerful analogy to teach us that a life lived apart from Him is empty.  Just as the vine supports the branch and gives life to the branch, so we receive life when we abide in Christ.  And not only that, we truly bear lasting fruit when we consciously and deliberately draw on the sap of life that is in us…the Holy Spirit.

So this weeks post is a “Can’t Live Without”.  I can’t live without the vine!

This past week, Layla and I had a chance to help some friends of ours work on their new vegetable garden.  There were two things that humbled me during our time together: one was that this garden is not just a hobby for them, it will literally be the difference between them being hungry or not.  We are praying for a big harvest for them…and we have plans to help insure that they are no longer hungry.  But for most of us, a vegetable garden will not mean the difference between going to sleep hungry or not.  For these dear friends, it is.

The second thing that humbled me was Layla’s innocence.  She is color blind.  She doesn’t see people for their differences, she sees people for who they are…special individuals created in the image of the God that loves them.  And she is the first one to ask if they know Him!  I love that little girl.

So this week’s “Humbled By…” post is of three unlikely characters planting a garden on an unlikely urban piece of land.  I pray that all of them continue to bear good fruit.

This past weekend Lindsey and I celebrated her birthday with a short day trip to the place where we had our first date…Hanging Rock. With two awesome little girls, full-time schedules and the nuances of life, precious time for just the two of is sometimes, well…precious! It was so great to get away with just Lindsey.

So here is a “Humbled By, Thankful For & Can’t Live Without” all rolled into one. I am humbled by her, so thankful for her and Lord knows I can’t live without her! My Lindsey Rae’.
